Monday Aug 3rd & Tuesday Aug 4th
Silverton to Lake City (Cinnamon Pass)
and Back the next day (Engineer Pass)a

By: Debra Van Winegarden
Need some incentive to go ride The Alpine Loop?Meet at the Silverton Visitors Center at 8:00 a.m. Monday August 3rd. The ride is 35 miles the first day over Cinnamon Pass (3:20 riding time, 5 hours total) and 25 on the return over Engineer Pass (4:25 riding time, 6 hours total). Total elevation gain and loss: 6,300 feet over 60 miles. The start is Animas Forks, an old mining town, now abandoned. We might carry day packs with lunch, money, camera, and a change of clothes for the evening: t- shirt, shorts, sandals.

Make your own hotel reservations for Monday night (Aug 3rd). Avoid the Alpine Moose Lodge. Pleasant View is full. There are three rooms left at the Lake City Resort. The Matterhorn has plenty of room. We should for sure stay in town so we can walk to dinner. That means Gunnison Street or there abouts. It’s a tiny town but you don’t want to be on the Lake or outside of town. Big hassle.
